MSC
are present at the ratio of one to 10,000 `@100,000 in bone marrow@cells.
MSC also decreases in number, as we get older. For example, the number of
MSC becomes extremely reduced when we reach the age at which we often begin
to suffer from periodontal diseases. In the past, therefore, we had to collect
as much bone marrow fluid as possible from a patient in order to take enough
amount of stem cells necessary for replanting.
Also, the previous cultivation method using human blood serum achieved just
ten-fold increase in the number of MSC and so it was very difficult to secure
the necessary amount of MSC for medical treatment. We, Two Cells, have made
a great success in taking MSC from the marrow of iliac bone and alveolar
bones (MSC can be collected from alveolar bone marrow at the time of tooth
extraction) and in gsuper- proliferatingh MS‚b over 10,000 times in number.
Through our successful method, we are now able to secure enough amount of
MSC for replanting purpose just by taking small amount of bone marrow. Our
method has successfully reduced the burden of patients. This method is called
gMSC Super-Proliferationh utilizing FGF2 (fibroblast growth factor2). This
newly-developed method enables us to achieve over-10,000-fold increase in
number of MSC, or to proliferate 1,000 times more MSC than the traditional
method.
(as shown in Fig.2)
MSC
retain the ability to differentiate into various@types of adult cells such
as bone cells, cartilage cells, cardiac muscle cells, fat cells, and nerve
cells. That is why we pay much attention to MSC for medical purposes and
the benefits of patients. MSC can be collected from the bone marrow of
every person. For this excellent property, a great number of patients can
be relieved from the suffering caused by diseases, if MSC is replanted
in them. Thus, many diseases can be cured. MSC is researched and studied
all over the world, and the medical potentiality and very promssing. We
are going to work on to treat a great number of patients who suffer from
the diseases listed in Fig.1 .
In fact, we, Two Cells, together with Dentistry Department, Hiroshima University,
have already been committed to utilize MSC in regeneration of periodontal
tissues@for treatment for periodontitis.

The
biggest problem for Regenerative Medicine using MSC is that there is no
reliable quality control.
If quality inspection for Regenerative Medicine isnft successfully developed,
Regenerative Medicine will run out of business and become unpopular.
Twocells has successfully developed an identification normal biomarkers for
quality inspection for MSC.

In addition, Cancer Res. 2005 released information about the risk of Canceration
and neoplasm
Therefore, the hstudy on the prevention of various adverse reactions by
elimination of infection risks, security of cellular identity, immunization
reactions, suppression of carcinogenesis and toxic substances originating
from the culture media etc.h research project on the human genome, by Tissue
Engineering Food Biotechnology in Health and Labor Sciences Research Grants
was started in May 2005.
That report will be released in summer 2008.
